A visit to the Betty Ford Alpine
Gardens during the summer months
provides gardeners an
opportunity to enjoy the unique
beauty of a high altitude
garden.
Located in Vail at an altitude of 8,200 feet, the botanic gardens
encompass several distinct gardens: an alpine tundra garden, a colorful mountain perennial garden, an
Asian-influenced meditation garden, the alpine rock
garden, the schoolhouse garden that is the home of the horticultural therapy
program and a children's garden. Each garden features trees,
shrubs and flowers that grow well in the Rocky Mountains.
Numerous ponds, waterfalls, and boulders enhance the beauty of
the grounds, while benches placed strategically along the walkways entice
visitors to sit and enjoy the lovely garden and mountain views. Gardeners will
especially appreciate the informative plant labels and the displays that
describe the garden’s plants. The
gardens are open to the public free of charge. |
