Gardeners,
butterfly enthusiasts and nature lovers who live in or visit the Grand
Junction area will be delighted by a visit to the Western Colorado
Botanical Gardens. The Greenhouse and Butterfly House feature more
than 600 lush tropical plants, numerous colorful butterflies flitting
about, as well as ponds containing fish and water plants. Visitors
will also enjoy the Children's Secret Garden, the Rose Garden and the
Sensory Garden whose plants have interesting textures, scents or perhaps a
tendency to rustle in the wind. Butterfly Crossing is another
outdoor garden that features butterfly-attracting plants. Several
other gardens are in a planning phase or construction stage. The new
outdoor amphitheater allows the Gardens to offer evening slide shows,
concerts, and educational presentations. The Gardens' 12 acre site
is located beside the Colorado River and the Colorado River Trail near
Watson Island and the Watson Island Nature Trail. Be sure to
complete your visit by shopping at Botanica Gift Shop, located at the
entrance to the Greenhouse. All gift shop proceeds benefit the
botanical gardens. For more information please visit www.wcbotanic.org.
